Texas Primary Reading Inventory

       I hope everyone had a great long weekend and Labor Day Holiday.  Now we are all rested from getting into the routine of starting back to school and ready to go!
      Today we began administering the Texas Primary Reading Inventory, or TPRI, to our Kindergarten students.  Because of this, your child will not have any papers in his/her homework folder.
          The TPRI is an early reading assessment designed to identify the reading development of students in Kindergarten through third grade. This diagnostic instrument is an easy to use one-on-one assessment which helps teachers provide targeted instruction so that students improve as readers.
     The TPRI benchmark assessment is given 3 times a year, Beginning, Middle, and End. The TPRI consists of both a Screening and Inventory Section. The screening quickly helps teachers to identify students who may be at risk for reading difficulty. The inventory provides teachers with specific information about a student’s strengths and weaknesses.      Because this is a one-on-one assessment, Mrs. Shipp and Mrs. Cabaniss took all of the Kindergarten students to the Bus Room to watch a movie this morning.  They watched the movie, Nanny McPhee Returns. While watching the movie, Mrs. Greenlee and I would get one child at a time to bring into our classrooms to do the TPRI. We will continue this again tomorrow.  If we did not test your child today, we will tomorrow.
     This year's class is a great bunch of kids, and we are off to a great start.  I will try to back up to the first couple of weeks of school and post some pictures and fill you in on some of the activities we did those first two weeks of school.
     Some days are very, very busy in Kindergarten, so I may not post EVERY DAY.  I do want to keep you informed about what we do each day and give you things to talk about with your child about what is going on in Kindergarten.
