Scholastic Book Order

A Fun Fact:  9 Out of 10 kids read more when they choose their own books.  They have the opportunity to do just that with the Scholastic SeeSaw Book Order I sent home earlier this week.  Please, remember to send that back to school with your child tomorrow (Friday, September 23, 2011), so I can send the order off over the weekend.  There are a couple of books for only $2 and even an "I Spy" book for only $1.  We receive points with every order for free books for the classroom.  Remember, too, that your child gets to choose his/her own book each week when we go to the library.  If you return your book each Friday, your child gets to select a new book for the next week. We will go to the library tomorrow, so send those books back to school.  Reading to your child is very important as they become beginning readers themselves.
You should have noticed the take-home pre-decodable books that your child brought home this week.  We are already learning to read the sight words/high-frequency words a and the.  As you read various books to your child, have him/her look for our new words a and the.
This week, Jordan came in from the first grade class to read two books to us.  She showed our class what we can be reading by this time next year.

This morning before breakfast, we played an alphabet game on the Promethean Board. I just sat back and watched!  The kids amazed me as they politely took turns choosing a letter, and sharing the pen.  They had so much fun, and helped each other. If someone had trouble identifying a letter, they stepped up and helped.

We also practiced our patterns some more.  This week we have used X's and O's, actions, and colors to make different patterns.

Our letter this week is Hh. We're making special hamburgers for our Super Kid Treat tomorrow.  I'll tell you all about it tomorrow and post pictures.
